The large male lion was for once, lost for words. A beautiful place, unclaimed? Flourishing land, a river basin with some water in it, the skink of endless prey? He jumped up, batted the air with his paw and started to dance around. This is what he had dreamed of since he had been a cub. His own land.
He let out an enourmous roar. It suffocated the air, pulled all the air from his lungs, rattled the sky, shook the ground. The first smile he had for two whole years played on his muzzle. The grass was springy, the water pure.. A little dusty, but at least there was any of it.
He stood, his dark-golden and black mane stading out beautifully against the sky. The mane around his face was beautifully filled out, and it reached right down to his groin. He looked so grand, as he liked to think. He lifted his right forepaw and stamped it hard down intio the earth, making a large, deep pawprint.
'I claim this land, for the Nzawicht Clan.'
Came the call. The massive bull stood still to let the echos finish bouncing off rocks, and grinned once more.

Her words floated down, with an annoyed edge to them. Her bulk was still hidden, up in a low-hanging tree where she had dragged her last meal up in. The demoness lay contently - or at least she had until the lion had come. Her lids were still shut, as if she beckoned the dream back, but she new it was a fleeting hope. One amber eye suddenly was revealed, although her head still was on the single forearm that rested on the tree. Her other three limbs dangled down from the branch, that was dangerously low and could give her hiding spot away, but the leopardess knew that she was in no real danger.
Suddenly, right out of the blue, Barb Wire dropped from the tree. She did so almost gracelessly, and as her pads gripped the dry ground, she preceded to strech in the traditional 'cat' style. As she reclined to her haunches, instinctively she raised her paw, and began to groom her face. She glanced at the tom infront of her, and a smug grin tilcked ler maw. He was kinda cute, considering that he wasn't one of her speicies.
"Your name, please. I cannot garuntee that you shall receive mine in return."
The leopard said in mock sarcasim, as her head tilted to the side in a manner that self-absorbed cats do. She nearly hacked a hairball, she didn't like acting that way, but it was fun to make fun of yourself every once and a while.
